Requirements
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit). Everything else RemoteDeck needs is part of Windows.
- An internet connection when RemoteDeck starts, so it can check for a newer version. Without one it still runs.
- For SSH and SFTP: Windows' own OpenSSH client, which Windows 10 and 11 include. If it is missing, add it in Settings → System → Optional features → OpenSSH Client.
- For VNC: any VNC viewer that opens
vnc://links. For Cloud CLI connections: the cloud's command-line tool.
First start
- Save
RemoteDeck-win-x64.exein a folder you can write to, such as Documents or Desktop. RemoteDeck updates itself in that folder. - Double-click it. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC", because RemoteDeck is new and not yet code-signed: choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Read and accept the terms of use. RemoteDeck asks once, and again only if the terms change.
- Add your first server with New Connection, or import your OpenSSH config or Remote Desktop Connection Manager file. The connection guide explains each kind.
Smart App Control. On PCs where Windows' Smart App Control is turned on, Windows blocks programs that aren't code-signed, and there is no "run anyway" for it. Until RemoteDeck is code-signed, it only runs where Smart App Control is off (Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings).
Updates
RemoteDeck checks remotedeck.net for a newer version every time it starts and every few hours while it runs. When there is one, it updates before it opens: it downloads the new version, checks that it was published by RemoteDeck's own signing key and that the file is exactly the one published, puts it in place and restarts. This keeps everyone on the version with the latest fixes. The check sends no information about you or your servers.
Check the file yourself
To confirm a download is exactly the published file, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one above. In PowerShell:
Get-FileHash .\RemoteDeck-win-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256
